Chapter 14 - Unmasking the Traitor

Realizing he was losing control of the room, Silas cursed violently and bolted toward the private exit on the balcony.
"He's running!" Elara pointed.
Cassian didn't hesitate. "Stay with Marcus," he commanded Elara, darting out from behind the marble pillar and sprinting up the grand staircase.
Cassian cornered Silas on the rooftop of the hotel. The cold New York wind whipped around them, carrying the distant wail of police sirens.
Silas held his hands up, a desperate, cornered rat. "Cassian, wait! We can make a deal. I have twenty million in offshore accounts. I'll split it with you. We can walk away."
"You don't understand, Silas," Cassian said, stepping into the moonlight, his weapon leveled at his former friend’s chest. "It was never about the money."
"Then what? The bartender? You're going to kill me over a girl from the slums?"

"She has more loyalty and courage in her broken heel than you had in ten years," Cassian said coldly. "You ordered an innocent woman thrown out to freeze to death under my banner. You tainted my empire."
Silas reached into his jacket, but Cassian was faster. Two suppressed shots echoed into the night. Silas collapsed onto the roof, the coup ending as quickly as it had begun.
