Chapter 14 - The Confrontation

With a deafening crash, the massive steel blast doors slammed down over the exits, kicking up a cloud of toxic dust.

Marcus panicked, raising his gun and firing wildly into the shadows. "It's a trap! Get back to the car!"

But they were sealed in.

Julian stepped out onto the metal catwalk, fifty feet above them, looking down like a vengeful god. The moonlight filtered through the shattered skylights, illuminating his cold, furious face.

"Julian!" Victoria gasped, a twisted smile spreading across her lips. "You survived. Oh, I knew you would. You're too strong for them."

"You're pathetic, Victoria," Julian's voice boomed through the factory. "You sent acid to a pregnant woman. You're not a queen. You're a coward."

Marcus aimed his gun at the catwalk. "Shut up, Julian! The game is over! Hand over the override codes for these doors, or I'll shoot you off that ledge!"

"You're a terrible lawyer, Marcus, and an even worse hitman," Julian mocked coldly.

Suddenly, the screech of tires echoed from outside the factory. A massive armored truck smashed directly through the steel blast doors, tearing them off their hinges.

Julian’s heart dropped. He hadn't planned for this.

Half a dozen heavily armed men poured out of the truck, surrounding Marcus and Victoria. But they weren't Victoria's men. They were wearing tactical gear with the Vanderbilt family crest emblazoned on their shoulders.

From the passenger seat of the truck stepped Eleanor Vanderbilt.
