Chapter 14 - Elena’s Secret

They burst through the heavy fire doors onto the eighty-sixth floor, alarms blaring as the building shook from the supernatural restructuring. The corridors were flashing with red emergency lights, casting eerie shadows against the rapidly decaying walls.

Elena leaned against a concrete pillar, clutching her chest. "Victoria... wait. The audit... it’s pulling at me too."

Victoria turned, her eyes narrowing as she looked at Elena through the analytical lens of her office. The crimson ink from the pocket ledger was floating through the air, swirling around Elena’s body like a luminous cage. That was impossible—the Immunity Token should have shielded her entirely from the Manor’s collection protocols.

Unless the token wasn't hers to begin with.

"Who are you?" Victoria demanded, stepping into Elena’s personal space, her silver stylus raised to the woman’s chin. "The token protects innocent third parties. It does not protect collateral. Why is the Ledger trying to reclaim you?"

Elena looked up, a bitter, self-deprecating tear cutting through the dust on her cheek. "I told you my father was a master of loopholes. When he realized he couldn't beat your ledger, he didn't just create a daughter as a decoy. He cloned his own spiritual signature."

She pulled open her trench coat, revealing a glowing, crimson brand burned directly over her heart—the exact same numerical sequence as Entry #001.

"I’m his living backup drive, Victoria," Elena whispered, her voice trembling. "If you kill him on the roof, his soul automatically downloads into me. He doesn't die. He just becomes me."
