Chapter 10 - The Promise of Tomorrow

Tears of pure, overwhelming joy began to pour down Sarah’s face uncontrollably.

She buried her face in Violet’s sweet-smelling hair, letting out a sob of ultimate relief.

They were not going back to the freezing, cramped back seat of the Corolla.

They were not going back to the dangerous, terrifying winter streets of San Francisco.

"I do not know how to ever thank you for this, Mr. Maxwell," she wept softly.

"You can thank me by keeping this house running perfectly," he replied with a small smirk.

He stood up and walked over to the mother and daughter, reaching out to gently touch Violet’s cheek.

"And perhaps, if you don't mind, you could bring her around to the main house sometimes," he requested softly.

"It has been a very long time since these walls heard the sound of a child laughing."

Sarah smiled brilliantly through her happy tears, nodding her head vigorously.

"She would love that very much, sir," Sarah promised.

That evening, the fog rolled back over the golden hills of the city, wrapping the mansion in a quiet peace.

Sarah sat on the soft, comfortable couch of the beautiful estate cottage, watching Violet sleep peacefully in a real bed.

The terrible fear that had haunted her for months was finally gone, completely washed away by a miracle.

She had risked absolutely everything for her daughter, walking straight into the fire of a billionaire’s wrath.

But instead of getting burned, she had found a guiding light in the darkest room.
