Chapter 10 - The True Legacy

Five years later.

The Newport estate was unrecognizable from the cold, sterile museum it had once been. The manicured lawns were now covered in soccer nets, tricycles, and scattered toys.

Leo was fifteen, excelling at his private academy and already showing a brilliant mind for coding, much to Julian’s delight. Sam was thirteen, a talented artist who spent his days sketching the ocean. Mia, ten, was a little whirlwind of energy who ruled the household staff with a benevolent, toothy smile.

Clara stood on the balcony of the master suite, the morning sun warming her face. The scars on her back were still there, but they no longer brought her shame. They were a map of her triumph.

She felt two strong, familiar arms wrap around her waist, and Julian kissed the sensitive skin just behind her ear.

"What are you thinking about, Mrs. Vance?" Julian murmured.

"Just thinking about how loud this house is going to get in about six months," Clara smiled, resting her hands over her stomach. Beneath her fingers, the gentle, unmistakable swell of pregnancy pushed against the fabric of her dress.

Julian’s hands covered hers, his chest rumbling with a deep, contented laugh. "We can handle it. Though I think Leo is a bit worried the new baby is going to touch his computer models."

Clara leaned back into him, completely at peace. The society pages had long stopped calling her the "maid who married the billionaire." Now, she was known as Clara Vance, head of the Vance Foundation for Orphaned and Disadvantaged Youth, a charity Julian had built in her honor, funded by billions of his tech profits.

She had started as a girl from the mountains who had lost everything in the flames. She had endured the ashes, the humiliation, and the cruelest parts of the world.

But as she looked out over the sprawling green lawns, listening to her brothers and sister laughing in the distance, and feeling the steady, unbroken heartbeat of the man who loved her fiercely, Clara knew she hadn't just survived the fire.

She had built an empire from the embers.

"I love you, Julian," she whispered, turning her head to capture his lips.

"I love you more, Clara," he promised, just as he had on their wedding night. "Forever."
