Chapter 7 - The Confrontation at Sterling Enterprises

While David’s tactical operatives prepared for the warehouse rescue in Reno, Julian knew he had to strike his family where it would hurt them most: the public eye and the corporate ledger. By 8:00 AM Monday morning, the financial world was already buzzing with rumors of a disturbance at the Sterling Tahoe estate.

Inside the gleaming, seventy-story glass tower of Sterling Enterprises in downtown San Francisco, Victoria and Marcus had called an emergency meeting of the Board of Directors. The boardroom on the top floor was packed with twelve senior executives and corporate attorneys, all sipping espresso beneath an imposing portrait of Julian’s late father.

Victoria stood at the head of the long mahogany table, her arm in a silk sling from a staged injury she claimed she suffered during a "break-in" at Tahoe. “Gentlemen,” she announced, her voice dripping with calculated sorrow. “I regret to inform you that my eldest son, Julian, has suffered a severe psychological relapse triggered by the anniversary of his late wife’s death. He has abducted two local orphans, assaulted security staff, and gone into hiding. For the stability of our stock, we must vote today to enact the Medical Incapacitation Clause and name Marcus as acting CEO.”

Marcus puffed out his chest, adjusting his Italian silk tie. “It’s a tragedy, gentlemen, but we have to protect the company. Julian is simply out of his mind—”

The heavy, bulletproof glass doors of the boardroom were suddenly kicked open with such force that they slammed against the marble walls like gunfire.

Every head around the table snapped toward the entrance. Standing in the doorway was Julian Sterling. He wasn’t wearing a suit; he wore a dark tactical field jacket over a black shirt, his face unshaven, his green eyes radiating an intimidating, predatory aura that made several board members instinctively push their chairs back. Flanking him were four armed private security contractors in full tactical gear.

“Julian!” Victoria gasped, taking a stumbling step backward as her carefully constructed narrative evaporated in an instant. “How dare you disrupt a formal board meeting! Guards! Remove him!”

“The building security works for me, Mother,” Julian said coldly, striding down the length of the mahogany table. He didn't look like a grieving widower or a broken man; he looked like an absolute conqueror reclaiming his throne. He reached into his jacket pocket, pulled out a thick stack of legal documents, and slammed them down onto the center of the table with a resounding crash. “And as for my sanity, gentlemen, I have never been clearer in my entire life.”
