Chapter 16 - The Press Conference

By 4:00 PM that afternoon, the financial district of San Francisco was paralyzed by the largest breaking news story of the decade. The lobby of the Sterling Enterprises tower had been converted into a massive press room, packed with over two hundred journalists, news cameras, and international correspondents. The world was waiting to hear why police cruisers had surrounded the building and why Marcus Sterling had been led away from a California Street helipad in federal handcuffs just an hour earlier.
The stage curtains parted, and Julian Sterling stepped up to the podium. He wore a crisp, dark navy suit, his posture immaculate, but his face carried the quiet, undeniable gravity of a man who had gone through hell and returned victorious.
But what made every camera flash bulb in the room explode with blinding light was who walked out beside him.
Holding Julian’s right hand was Aurora, wearing a beautiful blue velvet dress, her hair neatly braided with white ribbons. Holding his left hand was Stella, wearing an identical pink velvet dress, her small hand gripping her father’s fingers with absolute trust. Standing protectively just behind them were David Vance and a freshly discharged, smiling Nanny Sarah Jenkins.
Julian adjusted the microphone, his deep voice carrying over the sudden, stunned silence of the press corps.
“Ladies and gentlemen of the press, and to the shareholders of Sterling Enterprises global network,” Julian began, his voice clear and unwavering. “For two years, the world believed that my beloved wife, Clara Sterling, passed away from a sudden illness without leaving behind a family. Today, I am here to correct the historical record and introduce you to the future of the Sterling legacy.”
Julian looked down at his daughters, flashing them a warm, reassuring smile before turning his sharp gaze back to the camera lenses.
“These are my biological twin daughters, Aurora and Stella Sterling,” Julian announced proudly, as a wave of gasps and frantic scribbling erupted across the room. “They were born in secret three years ago to protect them from a criminal conspiracy operating inside my own household. As of one hour ago, federal law enforcement has arrested my brother, Marcus Sterling, and issued an active warrant for my mother, Victoria Sterling, on charges of financial fraud, kidnapping, and the premeditated poisoning of my late wife.”

The press room erupted into absolute chaos, reporters shouting questions over one another, but Julian raised his hand, silencing the room with his commanding presence.
“Let me be perfectly clear to the financial markets and to anyone who ever thought my family could be manipulated,” Julian concluded, his eyes shining with maternal and paternal pride. “The Sterling trust fund is intact. My daughters are safe. And from this day forward, every single asset, hotel, and estate I own belongs exclusively to Aurora and Stella. Thank you.”
