Chapter 14 - The Fall and The Rise

Richard stammered, trying to defend himself, but two burly security guards were already entering the boardroom. He was dragged out, screaming obscenities, his career utterly destroyed in a matter of three minutes.
The board members sat in stunned silence. Julian turned his gaze to the room.
"Miss Vance just saved this company fifty million dollars and exposed a corporate saboteur," Julian announced, his voice ringing with absolute pride. "If anyone in this room ever questions her qualifications again, you can join Richard in the lobby. Are we clear?"
A chorus of rapid, respectful nods swept through the elite directors.
Julian turned to Clara. "Excellent work, Miss Vance. The merger will proceed."
When the meeting concluded and the room emptied, Clara leaned against the mahogany table, letting out a massive breath she felt she had been holding for an hour.
Julian walked over, stopping mere inches from her. He reached out, gently taking her hand. "You were magnificent," he murmured, a warm, genuine smile breaking across his stoic face.
Clara smiled back, the adrenaline fading into a deep, profound happiness. "I told you. I know how to find the leaks."
"You did," Julian agreed. "Now, I believe we have a date tonight to celebrate. And since you are officially the new Senior VP of Risk Assessment, I suppose I should take you somewhere expensive."

Clara laughed, a bright, beautiful sound that echoed in the empty boardroom. "As long as Leo can have the leftover dessert, you can take me anywhere."
Julian pulled her into his arms, kissing her softly. "Anywhere you want, Clara. Always."
