Chapter 9 - The Trial of the Decade

The media sensation that followed was astronomical. The "Framed Husband" case dominated the news cycle for months.

When the trial began, the prosecution played the recovered security footage. The courtroom fell dead silent as they watched Sarah and Mark dragging the bag, dropping the watch, and actively plotting my demise. Then they played the audio from the railyard.

Sarah’s brother, the police captain, was forced to resign under an FBI probe investigating his potential involvement in covering up her initial tracks.

When I took the stand, I didn't look at Sarah with anger. I looked at her with pity. The defense tried to argue that I had somehow doctored the tapes, but Marcus—the nervous IT guy who first recovered the footage—testified brilliantly, proving the digital footprint was authentic.

The jury deliberated for less than three hours. Guilty on all counts. First-degree murder, conspiracy, insurance fraud.

As the judge read the sentence—life in prison without the possibility of parole for Sarah, and forty years for Mark—Sarah finally broke. She didn't scream or yell. She just stared at the floor, a hollow, empty shell of the woman I once loved.
