Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

It took a year for the dust to settle.
I sold the house. I couldn't live there anymore. Every time I looked at the greenhouse, I saw the ghost of Mr. Henderson, and the ghosts of the life I thought I had.
With the money from the sale, I moved to a quiet coastal town in Maine. I started a small woodworking business, working with my hands, finding peace in the smell of sawdust and the rhythm of the ocean.
Chloe came to visit me on the one-year anniversary of the trial. We sat on the porch of my new cabin, drinking beers and watching the sun dip below the Atlantic horizon.
"You look good, Elias," she said, clinking her bottle against mine. "Alive."
"I feel alive," I replied, taking a slow sip.
I had lost my wife, my best friend, and my home in a span of forty-eight hours. But as I sat there, breathing in the cold, salty air, I realized something important. They hadn't destroyed me. They had only destroyed the illusion I was living in.

I pulled out my phone. No frantic texts. No threats. Just a message from a local client asking if their custom dining table was ready.
I smiled, pocketed the phone, and looked out at the water. My blood didn't run cold anymore. The nightmare was over, and for the first time in my life, the future was entirely mine.
