Chapter 8 - The Interrogation Room

I insisted on watching through the two-way glass.

Sarah sat in the stark, gray interrogation room, handcuffed to the metal table. She looked disheveled, her perfect facade completely shattered. The FBI lead investigator, Agent Miller, tossed a thick file onto the table.

"Mark took a plea deal," Miller lied smoothly. "He confessed to everything, Sarah. He said you struck Mr. Henderson with the hammer because he caught you sneaking through his yard, and you realized you could use it to frame Elias. He said you orchestrated the entire life insurance scam."

"Mark is a spineless coward!" Sarah shrieked, slamming her cuffed hands on the table. "He's lying! He struck the old man! I just helped him clean it up!"

Agent Miller smiled. "So you admit to tampering with a crime scene, accessory to murder, and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud?"

Sarah froze, realizing what she had just done. She looked at the two-way mirror, almost as if she could see me standing on the other side. Her eyes filled with a venomous rage, but there was nothing left for her to say. The trap had closed.
