Chapter 13 - The Big Day

Saturday morning dawned bright and bitterly cold. The Rossy estate had been transformed into a winter wonderland. White roses, silver ribbons, and thousands of candles lined the grand hall.

In the bridal suite, Chloe stared at herself in the mirror.

She wore a long-sleeved, ivory silk gown that hugged her frame before flaring out into a modest train. Her hair was swept up in an elegant twist, and her glasses—she refused to wear contacts—were polished and gleaming.

Rosa stood behind her, adjusting the veil.

“You look beautiful, piccola,” Rosa said, wiping a tear from her eye. “Like a queen.”

“I feel like I’m going to throw up,” Chloe admitted, gripping her bouquet of white orchids.

“Nonsense. You survived the mafia. You can survive a walk down an aisle.”

A knock sounded at the door. Matteo stepped in, wearing a sharp black tuxedo. He was to walk her down the aisle, as Chloe’s father had passed away years ago.

“It’s time,” Matteo said. He looked at her, his stern face softening just a fraction. “You look perfect, Chloe.”

“Don’t let me trip,” she ordered, taking his arm.

“I would take a bullet for you. I can certainly keep you upright.”

The music swelled. The heavy oak doors opened.

Three hundred guests stood, but Chloe didn't see any of them. Her eyes locked onto the end of the aisle.

Lorenzo stood there, breathtaking in a custom black tuxedo. His dark hair was brushed back, his jaw tight with emotion. When he saw her, the formidable CEO melted away, leaving only a man completely overwhelmed by love.

Chloe took a breath and began to walk.

She didn't trip. She didn't stumble. With Matteo’s steady arm supporting her, she glided down the aisle, her eyes never leaving Lorenzo’s.

When they reached the altar, Matteo kissed her cheek and handed her to Lorenzo.

Lorenzo’s hand was warm and solid. He squeezed her fingers, his eyes bright. “You made it.”

“Gravity took the day off,” she whispered back.
