Chapter 9 - The Arrest

“FBI! Drop it! Put your hands in the air!”
Six armed federal agents flooded the tiny motel room. Red laser sights painted Julian’s chest. He froze, the glass vials slipping from his trembling fingers and bouncing onto the carpet.
Mr. Thorne stepped into the doorway behind the agents, looking at Julian with absolute disgust. “We heard every word on the wire, Julian.”
They slammed him against the wall, slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. Julian was sobbing now, the pathetic, cowardly reality of his nature fully exposed.
“Eleanor, please!” he begged as they dragged him past me. “I didn't mean to! It was an accident! I just wanted her money!”
I didn't blink. “You laughed at her funeral, Julian. I hope you enjoy the silence of a concrete cell.”
Vivienne was arrested too, charged as an accessory after the fact. As they led her out in handcuffs, she looked at me with pleading eyes.
