Chapter 8 - The Airport Takedown

Eleanor Sterling was not a stupid woman.
When Marcus stopped answering his phone, she knew the walls were closing in.
She packed a single bag with three million dollars in untraceable diamonds and headed to LAX.
She booked a first-class, one-way ticket to a non-extradition country.
As she strutted through the terminal in her designer sunglasses, she thought she had won.
She approached the first-class boarding gate, handing her passport to the attendant.
Suddenly, heavy hands clamped down on both of her shoulders.
"Eleanor Sterling, you are under arrest for the murder of Victoria Vance," Agent Harrison announced.
Eleanor shrieked, fighting like a wild animal as the agents wrestled her to the linoleum floor.
"Do you know who I am?!" she screamed, her designer glasses flying off her face.
"I am untouchable!"
"Not anymore," Harrison replied, snapping the heavy steel cuffs around her wrists.
The diamonds spilled from her broken bag, scattering uselessly across the dirty airport floor.
News cameras, tipped off by an anonymous source, captured the entire humiliating spectacle.
The mighty matriarch of the Sterling family was dragged away in tears.
I watched the live broadcast from the comfort of my living room sofa.

I raised a glass of cheap wine to the television screen.
"Have a nice flight, Eleanor," I whispered.
