Chapter 3 - The Corporate Trap

Armed with the anonymous documents, we knew we had to strike Justin where it would hurt him the absolute most.
His entire identity, his massive ego, and his lavish lifestyle were tied to his high-ranking executive position at the real estate firm.
Mark spent the entire night running deep background checks on Vanessa Cárdenas and her public relations firm.
It turned out that Vanessa was not just Justin's mistress; she was his active partner in a massive corporate fraud scheme.
Justin had been illegally funneling lucrative marketing contracts to Vanessa's firm at three times the normal market rate.
In exchange, Vanessa was kicking back fifty percent of those inflated profits into the secret Cayman Islands account.
"They have stolen millions of dollars from the company over the last two years," Mark explained, projecting the financial flowcharts onto the wall.
"If we hand this over to his Board of Directors, he is looking at twenty years in federal prison."
I looked at the complex web of lies, deceit, and stolen money, realizing I had been married to a complete stranger.
Justin had always berated me for buying expensive organic baby food for Maya, claiming we needed to stick to a tight budget.
All while he was literally buying diamond bracelets for a woman who was actively helping him rob his own employers blind.
"We are not just going to hand this over to the Board privately," I decided, a new, fiery determination taking over my soul.
"Justin's company is hosting their annual charity gala this Saturday night at the Phoenician Resort."
"Vanessa's PR firm organized the entire event, and they will both be there celebrating their supposed success."
Luke nodded slowly, immediately understanding the devastating public humiliation I was planning to orchestrate.
"We will secure an invitation, and we will hand-deliver the evidence directly to the CEO in front of everyone," Luke agreed.
I spent the next two days preparing myself mentally, refusing to shed a single tear over the death of my marriage.
I bought a stunning, form-fitting emerald green evening gown that made me look like absolute royalty.

I was no longer the exhausted, stressed-out, and financially abused wife that Justin had so easily discarded.
I was a mother fighting for her child's future, backed by three brothers who would gladly burn the world down to protect us.
