Chapter 1 - The Anonymous Delivery

Forty-eight hours after the horrifying incident at the pediatric clinic, the doorbell of my brother’s heavily secured house echoed through the hallway.

Mark, my youngest brother who worked in corporate security, immediately checked the live camera feeds before even touching the doorknob.

A nervous-looking courier was standing on the front porch holding a thick, unmarked manila envelope.

The strict delivery instructions required my direct signature, with absolutely no exceptions allowed.

My hands trembled slightly as I signed the digital pad, keeping my baby girl, Maya, balanced safely on my hip.

Mark took the envelope from my hands, carefully scanning it for any tampering before laying it out on the kitchen island.

Luke, my eldest brother and a ruthless corporate attorney, walked into the kitchen with two cups of black coffee.

He pulled a small pocket knife from his suit jacket and sliced the top of the thick envelope open.

A massive stack of documents, printed emails, and glossy photographs spilled out onto the marble countertop.

I handed Maya to Nathan, my physician brother, so I could brace myself for whatever new nightmare was hidden in those pages.

The very first document was a confidential bank statement from an offshore account Justin had secretly opened in the Cayman Islands.

The account held nearly two million dollars, entirely siphoned from the commercial real estate company where he worked as an executive.

Beneath the financial statements was a deeply disturbing medical file bearing Vanessa Cárdenas’s name.

Nathan walked over, his medical expertise immediately kicking in as he scanned the glossy ultrasound photos.

He let out a cold, cynical laugh that sent a shiver straight down my spine.

"Clara, this ultrasound is completely fake," Nathan said, pointing to a series of mismatched serial numbers at the top of the image.

"It is a generic stock image pulled from a medical database, and the gestational dating does not even match her supposed timeline."

Vanessa was not actually pregnant with Justin's child.

She was using a fabricated pregnancy to trap him, secure his hidden wealth, and manipulate him into leaving me entirely.

The final piece of paper in the envelope was a handwritten note on expensive stationery.

"They are planning to drain your joint accounts on Friday and frame you for the corporate embezzlement," the anonymous note read.

I stood there in the quiet kitchen, staring at the absolute proof of my husband's total moral bankruptcy.

He had not just cheated on me; he had actively conspired to destroy my entire life and steal my child's future.

I took a deep, steadying breath, feeling the last remaining shreds of love for my husband completely evaporate from my heart.

"Luke," I said, my voice as hard and cold as a diamond.

"I want to take everything from him."

Luke smiled, a terrifying, predatory grin that meant the war had officially begun.
