The news of Melissa’s arrest and the subsequent fraud investigation spread through our community like wildfire.
The local newspaper published a small article about the embezzled trust fund, without naming Evan directly.
However, everyone in our social circle knew exactly who the article was talking about.
My phone blew up with text messages from aunts, cousins, and old family friends.
Some of them were horrified and offered their support, but many sided with my mother.
They started a vicious smear campaign on Facebook, calling me a greedy, dramatic liar who ruined a beautiful wedding.
They posted pictures of Melissa crying, claiming she was the victim of a jealous, bitter widow.

Grant had kept his promise and officially hired Evan for the paid summer internship at his nonprofit.
On Evan’s first day, Grant personally picked us up and drove us to the downtown office.

During his speech, Grant intentionally highlighted Evan’s crucial contributions to the design.
"This building would not be possible without the genius of a young man named Evan," Grant announced to the cameras.
"He taught us that true accessibility is not an afterthought, but the very foundation of good design."
The news stations broadcasted the story that evening, focusing entirely on Evan’s inspiring work.
The positive media coverage completely obliterated my family's petty Facebook smear campaign.
The public immediately fell in love with Evan's story and completely turned against Melissa.
