Chapter 9 - The Climax

My father had managed to kick my mother away and was rushing toward me, his eyes wide with fury.

He reached into his jacket, pulling out a small backup revolver.

Before he could aim it, the front doors of the warehouse exploded inward.

Sirens wailed in the distance as red and blue lights illuminated the entire building.

Detective Ramirez stormed in, his weapon raised and his voice booming like thunder.

"Drop the weapon, Vance! Do it now!"

My father hesitated for a fraction of a second, weighing his options.

He looked at the open loading dock, calculating if he could make a run for the water.

Ramirez did not give him the chance.

He fired a single warning shot that shattered the concrete right beside my father's boots.

My father slowly lowered the gun, raising his hands in defeat.

Officers flooded the room, tackling my father to the ground and slapping handcuffs on him.

Paramedics rushed in behind them, checking on Kevin, who was bleeding on the floor.

Dana ran toward me, helping me sit up and wrapping a warm blanket around my shoulders.

"The kids?" I choked out, grabbing her arm desperately.

"They are safe," Dana smiled warmly. "Officers just got them out of the truck."

I let out a sob of pure relief, closing my eyes as the nightmare finally began to end.
