Chapter 6 - The ConfrontationThe warehouse was dark, smelling of rotting wood, salt water, and rust.

I stepped out of the police cruiser, leaning heavily on my crutch as the rain soaked my clothes.
Ramirez and backup units were positioned a mile away, waiting for my signal to move in.
I pushed the heavy metal door open, stepping into the cavernous, empty space.

Kevin stepped out of the shadows, holding a suppressed pistol by his side.
He looked exactly the same as the day he proposed to me, handsome and completely terrifying.
"I really did love you in the beginning, Jess," he said, taking a slow step forward.
"But you were always so focused on your career, and the debts were piling up."
"Your mother offered me a way out, a way to provide for the kids."
"By killing their mother?" I spat, gripping my crutch until my hands ached.
"They would have been rich," Kevin argued, his eyes flashing with a twisted sense of justification.
"We gave them a beautiful memorial service, and they were finally at peace."
"Then you had to ruin everything by waking up and making that stupid video."
He raised the gun, pointing it directly at my chest.

I did not flinch.
I stood tall, knowing that a mother's rage is stronger than any weapon.
