Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

Tristan stared at his mother, his jaw unhinged. "Mom... what is she talking about? You paid Dr. Evans?"

Eleanor stammered, her face turning a blotchy red. "I—I was protecting our legacy! She was nobody! She would have ruined the Sterling name! I did what I had to do to ensure you married someone of proper standing!"

She gestured wildly at Sloane, but Sloane was backing away, looking at Eleanor with pure disgust.

"You're a monster," Sloane breathed. She looked at Tristan, her eyes filled with betrayal. "And you... you are completely spineless. You let her manipulate you, and you threw away the woman you loved just because your mother told you to."

"Sloane, please," Tristan begged, reaching for her.

Sloane slapped his hand away. She reached up, unpinned the diamond veil from her hair, and threw it onto the grass. "The wedding is off. Have your lawyers call mine."

With her head held high, Sloane marched back up the aisle and disappeared toward the estate, her family quickly rushing out behind her.

Tristan fell to his knees on the grass, sobbing into his hands. His entire world was collapsing in real-time, right in front of the people he had spent his life trying to impress.

"Security, get her out of here!" Eleanor shrieked, pointing at Maya, completely unhinged now that her grand plan was destroyed.

Alexander finally spoke. His voice was quiet, but it carried the terrifying weight of a man who could destroy cities with a phone call.

"If anyone lays a finger on my fiancée or my children," Alexander said, "the Sterling family will be bankrupt by Tuesday."

Eleanor froze, the word fiancée echoing in the air.
