Chapter 10 - A True Legacy
One year later.
The grand opening of the "Linwood Children’s Wellness Center" in downtown Sacramento was packed with local officials, families, and news crews. The building was bright, state-of-the-art, and fully funded.
Maya stood at the podium in a stunning emerald suit, a confident, radiant smile on her face.
"We built this center on a simple premise," Maya told the crowd. "That true legacy isn't about bloodlines, bank accounts, or names on luxury buildings. True legacy is about the love we pour into the next generation. It is about catching the people who fall through the cracks, and building them back up."
The crowd erupted in applause.
Standing in the front row was Alexander, holding Lily on his shoulders, while Leo and Lucas clutched his hands. He was looking at Maya with a pride so profound it brought tears to her eyes.
After the ribbon was cut, Maya walked off the stage and directly into Alexander’s arms. He kissed her deeply, right in front of the flashing cameras.
"You did it, Mrs. Thorne," Alexander whispered against her lips.
"We did it," she corrected, resting her forehead against his.
Lily tugged on Alexander’s pant leg. "Daddy, can we get ice cream now?"
Alexander scooped the little girl up, laughing. "You can have all the ice cream in the world, princess."
