Chapter 17 - Rebuilding the Foundation

With the trial behind us, Purely Petals soared to unprecedented heights. The Aurelia resort launch was an international sensation, pushing our quarterly revenue past the hundred-million-dollar mark. I was no longer just the woman who survived the Vance family scandal; I was universally respected as a self-made titan in the organic beauty industry.

One evening in December, Julian and I were sitting on the floor of my brownstone living room, wrapping Christmas presents for the triplets after they had gone to sleep. The room was illuminated by the warm, multi-colored glow of a twelve-foot Christmas tree we had all picked out together at a farm in upstate New York.

"I bought Noah the interactive coding robot he wanted," Julian said, taping a shimmering gold bow onto a massive box. "Though I'm ninety percent sure he's going to program it to attack my ankles when I tell him it's time to brush his teeth."

I laughed, tossing a roll of scotch tape at his chest. "He gets that rebellious streak from you, remember? You're the one who taught him how to negotiate his bedtime using logic charts."

Julian caught the tape, his smile fading into a look of deep, quiet tenderness as he watched me sitting amidst the sea of wrapping paper. He shifted over on the rug, sitting right beside me, and took both of my hands in his.

"Clara," he said softly, his voice thick with emotion. "This past year... watching you raise our children, watching you lead your company with so much grace and strength... it has been the greatest privilege of my life. You rebuilt your world from the ashes my family left you in, and instead of shutting me out forever, you had the grace to let me earn a place in it."

He reached into the pocket of his sweater and pulled out a small, square velvet box. It wasn't the ostentatious, fifteen-carat diamond ring his mother had forced him to buy me six years ago for society events. It was a simple, breathtaking platinum band set with three flawless sapphires—one for Leo, one for Maya, and one for Noah—flanked by two brilliant-cut diamonds representing him and me.

"I don't want to marry you because of our children," Julian whispered, opening the box between us. "I want to marry you because you are the love of my life, my best friend, and the most extraordinary woman I have ever known. Will you let me be your husband again, Clara? For real this time? On our terms?"

May you like

Tears blurred my vision, reflecting the glowing lights of the Christmas tree. I looked at the man who had humbled himself, who had stripped away his billionaire ego to become the partner and father my family deserved.

"Yes," I whispered, holding out my hand. "On our terms, Julian. Always."
