Chapter 6 - The Implosion

Over the next two weeks, Marcus and Chloe’s marriage spectacularly imploded.
With no money, no luxury cars, and the looming threat of prison, the stress shattered their perfect social image. Chloe tried to spin a narrative on Facebook, posting vague, tearful statuses about “toxic in-laws” and “financial abuse.”
It lasted exactly two hours before Thomas hit her with a massive cease and desist, accompanied by a very clear threat to release the audio recording of her plotting against Margaret to her entire country club social circle. Chloe deleted the posts and went completely silent.
Our private investigator reported that the screaming matches inside their house were so loud the neighbors had called the police twice.
Chloe was desperately trying to secure a defense attorney, but without access to the stolen funds, no high-profile lawyer would take her case. Marcus was sleeping on the couch, drinking heavily, entirely paralyzed by the ruin he had brought upon himself.
But my primary concern was no longer my son. It was my grandchildren.
Lily and Noah were innocent. They were living in a war zone, watching their parents tear each other apart. Margaret couldn't sleep, terrified for the kids.

“We have to get them out of there, Arthur,” Margaret pleaded one night. “Whatever Marcus and Chloe did, Lily and Noah don't deserve this.”
“I know,” I promised her, kissing her forehead. “I’m already handling it.”
