Chapter 1 - The Midnight Revelation

The voice coming from my laptop speakers made my blood run cold.

“As soon as the old man signs the equity transfer, Mom won't have a leg to stand on.”

I hit replay. I needed to hear it again to ensure I wasn't losing my mind. But there it was—my own son, Marcus, coldly calculating the downfall of the mother who had spent her life protecting him. And Chloe’s voice, sharp and greedy, chiming in right after:

“We’ll stick her in a facility in upstate New York. Something cheap. Once you control the board, Arthur can’t do a thing about it.”

I sat back in my leather office chair, the glowing screen of the laptop illuminating the dark room. For ten years, I had handed my logistics empire over to them piece by piece. I paid for their country club memberships, their private school tuitions for Lily and Noah, and their sprawling luxury home. I had done it all so my family could have a legacy.

Instead, I had funded my wife’s abusers.

I looked down at the faded red dossier. The EMERGENCY SUCCESSION PROTOCOL. I hadn't looked at it since the day my corporate lawyer, Thomas Vance, made me sign it. “Just in case, Arthur,” Thomas had said. “Money changes people.”

I picked up my phone and checked the time. It was 2:15 AM. I didn't care. I dialed Thomas’s personal cell.

He answered on the third ring, his voice gravelly with sleep. “Arthur? Are you alright? Did something happen to Margaret?”

“Margaret is bruised, but she’s sleeping,” I said, my voice eerily calm. “Thomas, I need you at my house at 7:00 AM. Bring your forensic accounting team. And bring the original copies of the Succession Protocol.”

“Arthur… what’s going on?”

May you like

“Marcus and Chloe have been embezzling. And worse, they’ve been physically abusing Margaret.” I paused, the anger finally cracking through my stoic facade. “I am going to burn their world to the ground. And I need you to hand me the matches.”

“I’ll be there at seven,” Thomas said, and the line went dead.
