Chapter 10 - The Golden Years

Two Years Later

The sun was setting over the back patio of our estate, casting a warm golden light over the sprawling gardens.

I sat in my favorite rocking chair, sipping a glass of iced tea. Beside me, Margaret was laughing, looking younger and more radiant than she had in a decade. There was no fear in her eyes anymore. No nervous trembling. She was finally safe.

Across the lawn, Lily and Noah were playing fetch with the golden retriever puppy we had adopted for Christmas. Noah was laughing hysterically as the puppy tackled him into the grass.

I had officially retired. After the trial, I promoted my incredibly loyal Chief Operations Officer to CEO and transferred ownership to an employee-owned trust, ensuring the company would thrive and protect the families of the people who actually built it.

I had established ironclad trust funds for Lily and Noah, accessible only when they turned twenty-five, strictly shielded from their parents.

Marcus occasionally sent letters from prison, begging for visits. Margaret threw them in the fireplace unopened. She had finally learned that protecting her peace was more important than protecting people who hurt her.

As I watched my wife smile at our grandchildren, I felt a deep, profound sense of peace.
