Chapter 9 - The Broadcast

I pulled the black USB drive out of my pocket and held it up for the entire room to see.

"Seven years ago, my father murdered his own son-in-law in an insurance fraud scheme," I declared clearly.

The ballroom erupted into gasps, whispers, and shocked cries.

"He locked Mark in a warehouse and burned him alive to save this pathetic empire!" I shouted over the noise.

My father lunged toward me, trying to grab the microphone, but I stepped back and kept speaking.

"And my sister, Vanessa, took ten million dollars to cover up her husband's brutal murder!"

Vanessa collapsed onto the floor in the front row, sobbing uncontrollably into her hands.

"Three days ago, Vanessa attacked my three-year-old daughter with boiling coffee to stop her from finding this evidence."

The disgust and horror on the faces of the socialites was absolutely beautiful to witness.

My father's security team finally rushed the stage, grabbing my arms to drag me away.

But it didn't matter anymore, because the local police weren't the ones walking through the doors.

I had emailed copies of the files to the FBI field office in the next state over before I arrived.

Dozens of federal agents in tactical gear stormed into the ballroom, demanding everyone freeze.

The local corruption couldn't stop the federal government from taking down a murderer.

They slapped handcuffs on my father's wrists while he screamed and cursed my name.

They dragged Vanessa off the floor, arresting her for child abuse, extortion, and conspiracy to commit murder.

I watched them take my toxic, evil family away in chains.

I dropped the microphone onto the stage and walked out into the cool night air.

The nightmare was finally over.
