Chapter 4 - The Setup

Marcus and Seraphina knew they had to act. If Evelyn recovered her spirits fully, their chances of having her declared legally incompetent—and seizing control of her massive trust—would vanish.

They needed Leah gone.

During the estate’s annual summer garden party, the house was packed with investors. Leah was tasked with keeping Evelyn comfortable in her private suite.

Suddenly, Marcus burst into the suite with two private security guards.

"Search her!" Marcus demanded, pointing at Leah.

"What is the meaning of this?" Evelyn demanded, clutching her pearls.

"Seraphina’s five-carat diamond engagement ring is missing," Marcus declared, ensuring the guests in the hallway could hear. "And a maid saw this little thief in our wing this morning."

"I was never in the east wing!" Leah protested.

The security guard grabbed Leah’s modest handbag from the side table and unzipped it. He reached inside and pulled out a glittering, massive diamond ring.

Leah gasped. "I didn't take that! He’s setting me up!"

Marcus smirked triumphantly. "Call the police. I want her arrested."

"Nobody is calling the police," a dark, furious voice echoed from the doorway.

Caleb stood there, looking like the wrath of God. He walked slowly into the room, his eyes locked onto Marcus.
