Chapter 6 - The Trap is Set

Julian was unraveling. Marcus’s surveillance showed him pacing his office at Vanguard, screaming at his security staff. The hospital cameras showed nothing. Clara had simply vanished into thin air.

He tried calling my phone, leaving unhinged voicemails alternating between fake, tearful pleas for his "beloved wife" and thinly veiled threats of legal action for kidnapping.

It was time to bait the hook.

I had Marcus leak a highly encrypted, but ultimately crackable, digital breadcrumb. A fake medical supply order for specialized prenatal medications, slated for delivery to a private clinic in downtown Brooklyn.

Julian, arrogant enough to believe his own IT skills were superior, took the bait.

Surveillance caught him leaving the hospital in the middle of his shift, bypassing his driver and taking his personal Porsche. He was heading for Brooklyn, believing he had caught me hiding Clara in a substandard, easily breached facility.

What he didn't know was that the Brooklyn clinic was a shell. A prop.

As he sped across the bridge, Marcus executed the next phase.

"The FBI has the files, Eleanor," Marcus's voice crackled over the radio in my command center. "Warrants have been signed. The Medical Board has issued an emergency suspension of his license."

"Good. Let him walk into the clinic."

We watched via hidden cameras as Julian kicked in the back door of the Brooklyn clinic. He was holding a sleek, silver medical case. The kind you use to transport highly sensitive, lethal sedatives.

He was fully prepared to murder my daughter right there and frame it as a medical emergency away from his hospital.

He stormed through the empty halls, yelling Clara's name, the facade of the polished doctor entirely gone. He looked like a rabid dog.
