Chapter 4 - The Discovery

The safe house was a fortified, brutalist-style compound in upstate New York, originally built for a paranoid tech billionaire. Now, it was Clara’s sanctuary. I had an entire private medical team flown in from Switzerland, completely untraceable, ready to deliver my grandson safely.

While Clara slept peacefully for the first time in months, I sat in the command center with Marcus via encrypted video link.

"You were right, Eleanor," Marcus said, looking fatigued but triumphant. "Julian Vance is a monster, and he's sloppy."

"Show me."

Files populated my screen.

"First, the embezzlement," Marcus explained. "He’s been funneling millions from the Vanguard endowment into offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands. He used the 'holistic maternity care' initiative as a front to bill for phantom services."

"Classic greed. What else?"

Marcus paused. "The medical anomalies. We pulled the records of his previous high-profile patients. Two women, both married to wealthy, controlling men who were close friends of Julian. Both women died during childbirth due to 'sudden amniotic embolisms.' Both husbands inherited massive trusts and made anonymous, seven-figure donations to Julian’s research foundation a month later."

My blood ran cold. He wasn't just an abuser. He was a contract killer disguised in a white coat.

"He weaponized the delivery room," I whispered, sickened to my core.

"We have the financial trails linking the donations to his offshore accounts," Marcus confirmed. "And we have a former scrub nurse who was forced into early retirement after asking too many questions about those deliveries. We bought her silence back. She’s willing to testify."

"Package it all," I commanded. "Give it to the FBI, the Medical Board, and the SEC. But time the drop. I want him to feel the walls closing in before the floor drops out."
