Chapter 3 - The Hostile Takeover

The morning sun cast long, golden shadows across the sleek glass table in the boardroom of Sterling Innovations.

Twelve of the most powerful executives in the country sat in uncomfortable silence, waiting for their CEO to arrive for the emergency meeting.

Instead of Julian stepping through the frosted glass doors, a woman they had mourned a decade ago walked into the room.

Gasps echoed around the table as Victoria Sterling took her place at the head of the boardroom.

She placed a thick, leather-bound dossier onto the glass with a heavy, authoritative thud.

“Good morning, gentlemen,” Victoria said, removing her dark sunglasses to meet their terrified stares.

“I apologize for my extended absence, but I am officially reclaiming my position as Chairman of the Board.”

The Chief Financial Officer, a man who had been secretly helping Julian launder money, began to hyperventilate.

“Victoria? But the crash… Julian said…” the CFO stammered, his face turning an unhealthy shade of gray.

“Julian Sterling is currently unavailable, as he is facing federal charges for embezzlement, wire fraud, and attempted murder,” she stated matter-of-factly.

She tapped the dossier with one impeccably manicured finger.

“Inside these folders is irrefutable proof of every illegal transaction Julian authorized, and the names of every board member who helped him.”

The room erupted into panicked murmurs, but Victoria silenced them with a single, sharp look.

“You have two choices,” she continued, her voice slicing through the air like a scalpel.

“You can resign immediately, surrender your stock options, and walk away with your lives intact.”

She leaned forward, resting her hands on the table as she stared down the trembling executives.

“Or you can fight me, and I will personally ensure you spend the rest of your pathetic lives in a maximum-security federal prison.”

There was no hesitation.

One by one, the men who had blindly followed Julian into corruption pulled out their luxury pens and signed the resignation papers Victoria’s security team handed them.

Within exactly fifteen minutes, Victoria had completely purged the corporate rot from her company.

The Sterling empire belonged entirely to her and Clara once again.

Julian’s grand, ten-year master plan had been dismantled before he even had the chance to eat breakfast.
