Chapter 5 - The Truth Revealed

We sat on the sagging sofa in her tiny, drafty apartment.

The twins were fast asleep in a makeshift crib in the corner, oblivious to the miracle that had just occurred.

Elena rocked Leo in her arms, never taking her eyes off his perfect little face.

I sat across from her, my head buried in my hands, completely consumed by shame.

“I am so sorry, Elena, I don't expect you to ever forgive me,” I began, my voice thick with emotion.

“I let my ego and my insecurities blind me to the truth.”

“I let that monster manipulate me, and I threw away my entire world.”

Elena looked up at me, her eyes filled with a pain that shattered my heart into a million pieces.

“I begged you, Julian. I got on my knees and begged you to look closer.”

“I was pregnant, terrified, and alone, and you threw me out like garbage.”

“I know,” I choked out, a single tear escaping my eye.

“And I will spend the rest of my miserable life trying to make it up to you and these boys.”

“I have already exposed Vivienne’s crimes to the authorities, her empire is crumbling as we speak.”

“But none of that matters to me right now; all that matters is keeping you four safe.”

Elena took a deep breath, clutching Leo tightly against her chest.

“I don't trust you, Julian, not anymore.”

“But these boys need a safe place to sleep, and this apartment isn't it.”

“Take us somewhere safe, and then we will figure out the rest.”

It was a small victory, a tiny sliver of hope, and I grasped it with everything I had.
