Chapter 3 - The Clinic

My heavily armored SUV tore through the gates of the Vance private research facility.

I didn't care about the trespassing alarms that immediately began wailing into the night.

I slammed on the brakes, kicked the door open, and stepped out into the pouring rain.

Four armed guards rushed out of the main entrance, raising their weapons at me.

“Stand down, Mr. Hayes, or we will shoot!” the lead guard shouted.

I didn't slow my pace, pulling a heavy crowbar from the trunk of my car.

“I am walking through those doors, and anyone who stops me is going to the hospital,” I growled.

Before they could fire, three black vans swerved into the parking lot behind me.

My own private security team, men fiercely loyal only to me, poured out with tactical gear.

They quickly disarmed Vivienne’s guards, securing the perimeter in a matter of seconds.

I smashed the glass doors of the clinic with a single swing and marched inside.

The sterile white hallways felt like a nightmare maze, but I followed the signs toward the pediatric wing.

Nurses and doctors scattered like frightened mice as I kicked open door after door.

Finally, I reached a heavily secured room at the end of the corridor.

I smashed the electronic keypad until the locking mechanism sparked and failed.

I pushed the door open, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird.

Inside, lying in a sterile incubator, was a tiny baby boy.

He had a tuft of raven-black hair, just like his brothers, just like me.

Tears blurred my vision as I reached in and gently scooped my son into my arms.

He whimpered softly, opening his striking green eyes to look at me for the very first time.

“I’ve got you, Leo,” I whispered, pressing my lips to his warm forehead.

“Daddy is right here, and no one is ever going to hurt you again.”
