Chapter 7 - The Desperate Strike

The gala erupted into utter pandemonium.
Reporters scrambled over each other, shouting questions. Wealthy investors began frantically texting their brokers, realizing the impending criminal investigation would turn their portfolios to ash.
Victoria, realizing her life of luxury was evaporating in real-time, completely lost her mind.
"You lying bitch!" she screamed, lunging down the marble steps directly at Elena.
She bypassed the security guards in her manic rage, her hands outstretched like claws, aiming directly for Elena’s throat.
Julian moved with lightning speed, stepping in front of his wife. He caught Victoria’s wrists, twisting them sharply until she shrieked in pain, and shoved her back onto the marble stairs.
"Don't you ever touch my wife," Julian roared, the sheer volume of his voice silencing the massive room.
Victoria scrambled backward, crying hysterically, her designer dress ruined.
Beatrice remained frozen, her aristocratic mask finally slipping to reveal the terrified, pathetic woman underneath. She looked toward the exit, calculating her escape.
But it was too late.
The wail of police sirens echoed from Fifth Avenue. Dozens of NYPD cruisers and FBI black SUVs pulled up to the museum. Arthur Vance, the private investigator, walked through the doors holding a thick stack of warrants, flanked by federal agents.
"Beatrice Sterling and Victoria Sterling," an FBI agent announced over a megaphone. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, financial fraud, and the attempted poisoning of Elena Sterling. Hands where we can see them."
As the agents moved in to cuff the screaming women, Elena suddenly gasped, clutching her stomach.

Julian turned, his anger melting instantly into panic. "Elena? What is it?"
"My water," she gasped, leaning heavily against his chest. "Julian, the baby is coming. Now."
