Chapter 10 - A New Legacy

Two years later.

The sun set over a sprawling, peaceful farm in upstate New York. There were no electrified gates, no armed security guards, and no marble floors.

Instead, there were wrap-around porches, endless fields of wildflowers, and the warm, comforting smell of home-cooked food.

Julian stood at the kitchen counter, wearing a faded plaid shirt and jeans, chopping vegetables for dinner. He looked younger, lighter, the permanent stress lines of Wall Street entirely erased from his face.

The screen door banged open, and two-year-old Jonathan came running in, his little boots covered in mud, laughing hysterically.

Right behind him was Elena, her hair tied up in a messy bun, carrying a basket of fresh tomatoes from the garden. She was glowing, completely healed from the trauma that had nearly taken her life.

"We have a fugitive on the loose!" Elena laughed, catching Jonathan and lifting him into the air.

Julian smiled, wiping his hands on a towel and walking over to his family. He wrapped his arms around Elena from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder as they watched their son play on the kitchen floor.

"How was the foundation meeting today?" Julian asked softly.

"Good," Elena replied, leaning back into his embrace. "We just approved full scholarships for fifty kids coming out of the foster system. It feels good, Julian. It feels right."

"You did that," Julian whispered, kissing her cheek. "You took a curse and turned it into a blessing."

Elena turned around, looping her arms around his neck. "We did it. Together."

Julian looked into his wife's eyes. He thought back to that morning two years ago, when he tore the covers off the bed in a jealous rage, expecting the worst. Instead, he had found the horrifying truth that had ultimately set them both free.
