Chapter 7 - The Confrontation

"Did you really think I wouldn't expect you to come back for the evidence, David?" Evelyn laughed maliciously.
Two massive men stepped out from the shadows behind her, both holding heavy wooden baseball bats.
"You are going to give me my granddaughter back, and then you are going to disappear forever," she ordered.
Mark didn't even flinch.
In one fluid motion, he kicked the heavy oak desk, sending it sliding violently across the hardwood floor.
The desk slammed into Evelyn's knees, knocking her backward and throwing off her aim.
Her gun fired, the bullet shattering a glass cabinet just inches from my head.
I charged forward, tackling the closest thug to the ground before he could swing his bat.
I punched him repeatedly, letting out every ounce of rage and fear I had felt all day.
Mark easily disarmed the second man, putting him in a brutal chokehold until he passed out on the rug.
Evelyn scrambled to her feet, trying to aim the revolver again.
I grabbed the heavy crowbar from the floor and swung it as hard as I could, striking her wrist.
She screamed in agony as the gun clattered across the room.
I pinned her against the wall, pressing my forearm tightly against her throat.

"Open the safe," I demanded, my voice shaking with raw adrenaline.
She glared at me with pure hatred, but she knew she had completely lost.
