Chapter 5 - The Investigator

Mark arrived exactly four hours later, driving a nondescript black SUV.

He walked into the motel room carrying a heavy duffel bag filled with laptops and tactical gear.

He took one look at Lily, who was finally sleeping peacefully, and his jaw clenched in pure anger.

"We are going to burn these people to the ground," Mark said, opening his laptop.

He connected to a secure, untraceable satellite network and began hacking into Evelyn's public financial records.

"Your mother-in-law runs a fake charity for underprivileged youth," Mark explained, pointing at the glowing screen.

"She uses it to launder money from high-profile clients who pay for exclusive access to these 'modeling' sessions."

My stomach churned violently at the sickening reality of the situation.

"We need the main client ledger," Mark continued, his fingers flying across the keyboard.

"If we get the names of the buyers, we can bypass local cops and go straight to the FBI."

"Where is the ledger?" I asked, desperation clawing at my throat.

"It's not online, she's too smart for that," Mark sighed, leaning back in his chair.

"It has to be a physical hard drive, probably hidden inside the house with the blue door."

I looked at him, realizing exactly what he was suggesting.

We had to go back to the very place I had just rescued my daughter from.

But this time, we wouldn't just be breaking a window.

We were going to tear the entire operation apart.
