Chapter 3 - The Demand

The triage nurse looked up, startled by the towering, terrifying man before her.

"Sir, you cannot be back here," she stammered.

"Clara Vance," Roman said, his voice dangerously low.

"I am the blood donor."

The nurse’s eyes widened in realization.

"Oh, thank God," she breathed.

"Follow me, right now."

She rushed out from behind the desk, leading Roman down a sterile white hallway.

His guards tried to follow, but Roman raised a single hand to stop them.

"Lock down this hospital," he ordered his men.

"Nobody comes in, and nobody goes out without my permission."

The guards nodded and immediately fanned out to secure the exits.

Roman followed the nurse through a set of double doors marked for authorized personnel only.

They entered a surgical prep area where a young doctor was frantically washing his hands.

"Dr. Evans, the donor is here!" the nurse yelled.

The doctor turned, looking exhausted and desperate.

"Mr. Silas?" the doctor asked.

"Skip the formalities," Roman snapped, ripping off his heavy wool coat.

"Take whatever blood you need, just save her."

Dr. Evans nodded, gesturing to a rolling bed.

"Lie down, roll up your sleeve."

"We are going to do a direct line transfusion because we don't have time to process it."

Roman climbed onto the bed without hesitation.

He watched as the nurse tied a tourniquet around his muscular bicep.

"How is she?" Roman asked, his voice cracking for the first time in a decade.

"She is fading fast," Dr. Evans admitted grimly.

"And the baby is under severe distress."

The needle pierced Roman’s vein.

He didn't flinch.

All he could think about was the woman on the other side of the wall.
