Chapter 10 - The Monster Unleashed

Roman descended the emergency stairwell with lethal grace.
He was no longer the worried father or the heartbroken lover.
He was the King of the Underworld.
He reached the third floor, where the gunfire was deafening.
He pushed the heavy fire door open just enough to assess the situation.
Five of Volkov’s men were pinned behind overturned medical carts, firing down the hall at Marcus.
Roman stepped out of the stairwell, raising his weapon.
He didn't yell a warning.
He simply fired.
Three shots echoed in rapid succession.
Three of Volkov’s men dropped to the floor, instantly dead.
The remaining two spun around, shock registering on their faces.
Roman shot one in the chest and walked calmly toward the last man.
The Russian raised his rifle, but Roman was faster.
He kicked the rifle out of the man’s hands and grabbed him by the throat.
He slammed the mercenary against the wall.
"Where is Dimitri?" Roman growled, pressing the hot barrel of his gun under the man’s chin.
"He... he is in the lobby," the man choked out.
"He wants your head."
"He will have it," Roman whispered coldly.
He pulled the trigger.
Marcus ran up the hallway, bleeding from a graze on his shoulder.
"Boss, you shouldn't be down here," Marcus panted.
"I am ending this tonight," Roman said, stepping over the bodies.
"Clear this floor."
"I am going to the lobby."
Roman reloaded his weapon as he walked toward the main elevator bank.
He hit the call button, his face a mask of absolute fury.
