Chapter 7 - The Handcuffs
Two stern-faced federal agents walked briskly into the boardroom, instantly flashing gold badges at the terrified, silent executives.
“Victoria Grant?” the taller, broad-shouldered agent asked, stepping purposefully toward her trembling figure.
Victoria foolishly tried to bolt toward the back service door, but the second agent smoothly blocked her only path of escape.
“You are formally under arrest for massive corporate fraud, grand embezzlement, and federal wire fraud,” the agent recited calmly.
He aggressively pulled out a pair of cold, heavy steel handcuffs from his tactical belt.
“Mother, please do something to stop them!” Victoria shrieked, struggling pathetically as they forcefully pulled her arms tightly behind her back.
Margaret just stood there, completely frozen like a marble statue, staring in horror at the absolute ruin of her perfect, heavily curated reputation.
For all her incredible wealth and daily cruelty, Margaret Grant was entirely powerless against the crushing weight of federal law.
As the agents marched Victoria aggressively past me, she temporarily stopped struggling for one brief, hate-filled second.
She glared at me, dark mascara tears streaming heavily down her ruined, previously perfect face.
“You maliciously planned this from the very beginning, you little bitch,” she spat venomously.
“I warned you yesterday in the lobby,” I whispered back, my voice dangerously soft.
“I clearly told you that this is a ruthless company, not a dramatic movie.”
The agents forcefully led her out, the heavy wooden boardroom doors swinging violently shut behind them.
The absolute silence that immediately followed was incredibly heavy, thick with profound shock and terrifying awe.
Richard Hawthorne leaned casually back in his leather chair and slowly steepled his weathered fingers together.

“Now that there is a sudden, unexpected vacancy for the CEO position, let us actively discuss the future of this firm.”
