Chapter 6 - The Crumbling Empire

Margaret quickly turned on her own daughter with the terrifying speed of a striking, venomous cobra.

“Victoria, tell me right now that you did not actually do this,” Margaret demanded, her voice shrill and trembling with sudden fear.

Victoria shrank back against the wall, finally looking like the frightened, pathetic little girl hiding behind incredibly expensive clothes.

“Mother, I absolutely had to do it,” Victoria pleaded, her voice cracking under the intense pressure.

“Richard was never going to make me his permanent, official successor, so I simply took what I rightfully deserved.”

The board members began shouting angrily at each other, desperately demanding their assistants call for immediate legal counsel.

Margaret instantly realized the massive corporate ship was sinking, and she immediately tried to ruthlessly save herself.

She turned her desperate, pleading eyes to Caleb, who had been sitting quietly and observing in the corner of the room.

“Caleb, control your insane wife immediately, or I will permanently cut you entirely out of the family trust fund,” Margaret threatened viciously.

Caleb stood up slowly, calmly buttoning his tailored suit jacket with a quiet dignity I had never seen him fully possess before.

“Keep your bloody money, Mother,” Caleb said, his voice ringing incredibly loud and clear over the chaotic shouting.

“I would honestly rather be dead broke than spend another single second defending a pathetic family of greedy thieves.”

Margaret violently gasped for air, clutching her diamond necklace as if her own son had just physically stabbed her in the chest.

Victoria burst into loud, ugly tears, finally realizing she had completely and utterly lost her only remaining allies in the world.

Through the heavy glass walls of the boardroom, I saw the flashing, undeniable blue and red lights pulling up to the front of the building.

The federal authorities had finally arrived, right on my meticulously planned schedule.

I closed my laptop with a highly satisfying, heavy click that signaled the end of their reign.
