Chapter 7 - The Arrest

Julian packed a duffel bag with whatever cheap clothes he had left and tried to make a run for the state border. He was speeding down the highway, constantly checking his rearview mirror, convinced that the investors' men were right behind him.

But it wasn't the investors he needed to worry about.

My father had simultaneously sent the ledger to the FBI’s white-collar crime division.

Julian barely made it thirty miles out of the city before his tires were blown out by a spike strip. Three black SUVs surrounded his rusted sedan. Federal agents swarmed his car, dragging him out through the window.

He was thrown onto the wet asphalt, handcuffs clicking tightly around his wrists.

He was charged with wire fraud, embezzlement, and grand larceny. Because he was deemed a flight risk, the judge denied him bail. Julian Vance was officially remanded to a maximum-security federal holding facility, wearing a bright orange jumpsuit, stripped of his suits, his cologne, and his pride.
