Chapter 4 - The Fake Kelly Bag

Seraphina was not a woman built for poverty. She had clung to Julian because he represented a ticket to high society. But with his bank accounts frozen, his job gone, and his reputation rapidly deteriorating, the reality of her choices began to set in.

They were forced to rent a dingy, one-bedroom apartment in a bad part of town. Julian was drinking heavily, screaming at her for ruining his life, conveniently forgetting he had been the one to orchestrate the affair.

Desperate for cash, Seraphina decided to quietly sell the slate-grey Kelly bag Julian had gifted her—the very same bag she had flaunted in my hospital room.

She took it to an elite luxury consignment boutique downtown. The owner, a woman with a sharp eye and a magnifying glass, examined the bag for less than two minutes before sliding it back across the glass counter.

“I’m sorry, Ms. Monroe. We do not buy counterfeit goods.”

Seraphina’s face turned bright red. “Counterfeit? Do you know who I am? My boyfriend paid thirty thousand dollars for this!”

“Your boyfriend lied to you,” the owner said dryly. “The stitching is uneven, the hardware is hollow, and the date stamp is a known fake. It’s a very good replica, but it’s worth about two hundred dollars. I suggest you leave before I call the authorities for attempting to sell counterfeit luxury items.”

Humiliated and enraged, Seraphina stormed out of the boutique. She realized then that Julian was not just a cheat; he was a fraud in every sense of the word. He had used stolen money to buy her fake affection.

That night, a massive screaming match erupted in their cheap apartment. The neighbors called the police. When the cops arrived, Seraphina packed her fake bags and walked out, leaving Julian completely, utterly alone.
