Chapter 8 - The Exhumation

Dallas Cemetery was quiet on Tuesday morning.
A white tent was set up over my father's grave, shielding the site from the press that had gathered at the gates.
I stood in my dress uniform, saluting as the forensic team carefully raised the casket.
It was the hardest thing I had ever had to watch.
I had missed his actual funeral because of their lies, and now I was watching him be pulled from the earth.
Marcus stood beside me, his head bowed in silent respect.
"He would be so proud of you, Lieutenant," Marcus whispered.
I didn't cry.
I just watched the van drive away, carrying my father toward the truth.
Two days later, the official medical examiner's report was released.
