Chapter 7 - Tyler's Betrayal
Tyler was sitting in an interrogation room, sweating through his designer shirt.
He wasn't built for a prison cell, and the detectives knew exactly how to break him.
They showed him the footage of his mother and the financial documents detailing the fraud.
Then, they offered him a choice.
He could go down as an accomplice to murder, or he could testify against Vanessa for a reduced sentence.
Tyler didn't even hesitate for a minute.
He spilled everything, completely selling out his own mother to save himself.
He confessed that he helped Vanessa forge the Dallas County transfer papers.
He admitted to buying the padlock for the dog crate.
He even told them where Vanessa had hidden the rest of the embezzled cash.
It was stuffed inside a false vent in the guest bathroom of our house.
When the police relayed the confession to me, I felt a cold sense of disgust.
They were a family built on greed and betrayal, turning on each other the second the money disappeared.
