Chapter 4 - Warrants and Whispers

By midnight, the house was swarming with detectives and crime scene investigators.
They bagged the dog crate, the broken padlock, and the food bowl as evidence.
Vanessa and Tyler were detained for questioning, their arrogant smirks replaced by sheer panic.
I sat in my father’s study, watching the flashing police lights through the window.
A lead detective, a grizzled man named Harrison, sat across from me with a notepad.
"We're getting an emergency order to exhume your father's body," Harrison said grimly.
"If the toxicology report matches these private lab results, this is a homicide investigation."
I nodded, my face an emotionless mask.
"She controlled his phone, his email, and the security staff," I explained, piecing the puzzle together for the detective.
"Marcus was the only one loyal to us, but she threatened to deport his family if he spoke out."
Harrison took meticulous notes.
Suddenly, a shout echoed from the front lawn.
Tyler was trying to make a run for it.
He scrambled over the stone wall, only to be tackled into the rose bushes by two uniformed officers.
