Chapter 8 - The Town Hall Trap

The local community center was packed shoulder-to-shoulder with terrified, desperate farmers.
Silas stood proudly at the podium, wearing a custom-tailored suit and a victorious smirk.
Eleanor sat in the front row, completely completely unaware of the massive storm approaching.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this drought has tragically destroyed our beautiful valley," Silas announced into the microphone.
"But I am generously offering to buy your useless, dry lands for a fair market price."
"It is the absolute only way you will survive the coming winter."
Suddenly, the heavy double doors at the back of the hall violently swung open.
Elena marched straight down the center aisle, her burns bandaged, her head held incredibly high.
"Do not sign a single piece of paper!" Elena shouted, her voice echoing off the high ceilings.
The entire crowd gasped, turning to stare at the widow who was supposed to be dead in a fire.
Silas gripped the wooden podium, his knuckles turning pure white with sudden rage.
"Sheriff, arrest this crazy woman for disturbing the peace!" Silas commanded loudly.
The corrupt sheriff moved forward, but a dozen heavily armed FBI agents immediately flooded the room.
They completely bypassed the local police, securing all the exits in a matter of seconds.
Prosecutor Marcus Thorne walked in right behind the federal agents, carrying a thick briefcase.
"Silas Vance, you are under federal investigation for the murder of Arthur Vance," Marcus declared.
The crowd erupted into chaotic, deafening screams and frantic whispers.
