Chapter 8 - The Ashes of the Empire

The aftermath of the siege changed everything.

The city of Boston woke up to news of a massive gangland massacre, but within the underworld, the message was clear: Dominic Thorne was not just back. He was invincible.

Sarah spent the night in the medical wing, treating the gunshot graze on Dominic’s shoulder. Her hands were shaking, the reality of his world finally crashing down on her.

"I can't live like this, Dominic," Sarah whispered, tears spilling down her cheeks as she bandaged his arm. "I can't have Leo growing up waiting for the next bullet to come through the window."

Dominic caught her hand, pressing it to his lips. "You won't have to."

"What does that mean?"

"I built this empire from a chair because I thought power was the only thing that could keep me safe," Dominic said, looking deeply into her eyes. "But power didn't give me my legs back. Power didn't make me feel alive. You did. Leo did."

Over the next month, Dominic executed the greatest maneuver of his criminal career: he dismantled it.

He sold the illegal shipping routes to a neutral cartel in New York. He legitimized his real estate holdings. He bought off the politicians one last time, not to ensure his criminal immunity, but to guarantee a clean break. The violent factions that refused to fall in line were systematically dismantled by Julian, who was handed the keys to the remnants of the Thorne syndicate.

Dominic Thorne, the ruthless mob boss, formally stepped down. He traded the crown for peace.
