Chapter 5 - The Line is Crossed
The attack was a message from the Volkov syndicate. They had learned about the woman and the child living in the East Wing. They thought Sarah was a weakness they could exploit.
They were profoundly mistaken.
For three days, the estate was on lockdown. Dominic unleashed hell on Boston. He didn't just retaliate; he eradicated. Warehouses burned, shipping lines were seized, and the head of the Volkov family suddenly disappeared, leaving a power vacuum that Dominic’s lieutenants swiftly filled.
On the fourth night, the lockdown was lifted.
Sarah went to the master suite to find Dominic standing. He wasn't at the parallel bars. He was gripping the back of a heavy leather armchair, his legs trembling violently, sweat pouring down his face.
"Dominic, sit down," Sarah rushed forward. "You're not ready for free-standing."
"I have to be," he ground out, his breathing ragged. "I have to be able to stand between you and a bullet. I couldn't protect you in that kitchen."
"You saved us," Sarah said, reaching out and gripping his shoulders. "Dominic, look at me. We are safe."
He looked down into her eyes. The adrenaline and fear of the past three days finally shattered the iron walls around his heart. He let go of the chair. He lost his balance, but instead of falling to the floor, he fell forward, wrapping his massive arms around Sarah, pulling her flush against his chest.
Sarah caught him, her arms wrapping tightly around his waist. He was solid, warm, and trembling.
Dominic buried his face in her hair. "I thought I lost you," he whispered, a confession of absolute surrender.

Sarah tilted her head up. The air between them crackled, electric and undeniable. Dominic looked at her mouth, then back to her eyes, asking a silent question. She answered by rising onto her tiptoes.
When their lips met, it wasn't a spark—it was an inferno. It was desperate, bruising, and deeply possessive, the collision of two people who had survived too long in the dark and finally found the light.
