Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

The sun was setting over the Atlantic Ocean, casting a golden hue across the sweeping lawn of the harbor estate.

There were no heavily armed mercenaries patrolling the perimeter anymore. The bulletproof glass had been replaced with French doors that were thrown wide open, letting the sea breeze carry the sound of the crashing waves into the living room.

Julian, now a legitimate security consultant dressed in a sharp linen suit, was on the patio, tossing a baseball back and forth with Leo.

Inside, Dominic was standing by the fireplace. He didn't have his cane.

Sarah walked into the room, holding two glasses of wine. She paused, admiring the broad, powerful shoulders of her husband. She remembered the cold, cynical man in the wheelchair she had met a year ago. Now, he was standing tall, a king who had given up his throne for a kingdom that actually mattered.

"What are you thinking about?" Sarah asked, handing him a glass.

"I was thinking about a rainy November night," Dominic said softly, pulling her in by the waist. "And a desperate physical therapist who refused to take no for an answer."

"She was terrified of you," Sarah teased, resting her hands on his chest.

"She brought me back from the dead," Dominic corrected, his voice filled with reverence.

He set his wine glass down on the mantle. He stepped back, finding his balance, and held out his hand.

"Dance with me," he murmured.

Sarah smiled, a brilliant, radiant expression that lit up the room. She took his hand, stepping into his arms. There was no music playing, just the sound of their son laughing outside and the rhythmic crashing of the tide.

Dominic Thorne, the man who was told he would never walk again, swayed his wife across the hardwood floor. He held her tight, his legs strong, his heart full, finally understanding that the greatest power in the world wasn't fear, and it wasn't control.

It was love, and a single, healing touch.
