Chapter 5 - The Heirloom

There was one loose end Julian needed to tie up before the trap could be fully sprung: his grandmother’s emerald ring.
The ring had been the nail in Claire’s coffin. When it was found in her coat pocket, it proved to Julian that Claire wasn't just having an affair; she was actively trying to steal from his family's legacy.
Through Marcus's forensic accounting, Julian tracked the movements of the ring. It turned out Vanessa had paid Thomas, Julian's former head of security, to plant the ring in Claire's coat.
Julian invited Thomas to a private meeting at a warehouse owned by one of Julian’s subsidiaries. When Thomas walked in, expecting a bonus or a new assignment, he found Julian sitting at a steel table, surrounded by four very large, very quiet men.
"Sit down, Thomas," Julian ordered softly.
Thomas swallowed hard, his eyes darting to the locked doors. "Mr. Sterling. Is there a problem?"
Julian slid a folder across the table. It contained photographs of Thomas accepting a briefcase full of cash from Vanessa, alongside transcripts of their text messages coordinating the framing of Claire.
"You swore an oath to protect my family, Thomas," Julian said, his voice deadly quiet. "Instead, you took a bribe to destroy my wife. You placed that ring in her pocket. You threw a pregnant woman out into the rain."
Thomas began to tremble, the blood draining from his face. "Mr. Sterling, please. She said if I didn't help her, she would have me fired and blacklisted. I needed the money for my daughter's tuition—"
"I don't care about your daughter," Julian interrupted, his eyes devoid of mercy. "You are going to do exactly what I tell you, Thomas. You are going to sign a sworn affidavit detailing every single instruction Vanessa gave you. You are going to testify against her in federal court. And if you ever speak a word of this to her before I give the signal, these gentlemen behind you will ensure you never speak again. Do we understand each other?"

Thomas nodded frantically, tears spilling down his cheeks. "Yes. Yes, sir. I'll do anything."
Julian stood up, adjusting his suit jacket. "Good. The wedding is in two weeks. Be ready."
